Equity and Inclusion Task Force
Mission
On February 14, 2023, City of Brunswick Mayor and Council approved establishing the Equity and Inclusion Task Force. The purpose of the Task Force is to develop an action plan for ensuring the work of the city government is equitable and inclusive for all. This includes ensuring that our committees, commissions, public meetings, and events are representative of our community diversity. In addition, ensuring that City hiring practices embrace equity and inclusion principles and that staff are provided professional development and training concerning the social environments represented in our community and among our visitors.
Equity and Inclusion Task Force Objectives:
- Improve access to city services, programs and employment, and make residents and businesses aware of opportunities to be involved in their community
- Build connections with ALL communities that reflect the breadth and richness of the diversity in our city
- Promote understanding of and appreciation for our diversity through celebrations and festivals
- Provide critical and relevant information on a timely basis and facilitate two-way dialogue between the city government and the community
Membership
The total membership of the Equity and Inclusion Task Force should represent a cross-section of the residents of the community including members of cultural/ethnic groups, vulnerable populations, faith-based groups, human services organizations, council members, and various dimensions of the city's diversity.
Criteria for Selection of Task Force Members:
- Willingness to be an active participant of the Task Force
- Ability to effectively participate in a diverse group of people
- Willingness to share information about their own community and to listen and seek understanding on issues that affect residents of the city outside of one's own group
