Lead Service Line Self-Inventory

Important: Lead and Copper Rules Requirement by MDE

Earlier this year, the city took proactive steps to inform residents about the mandatory lead service line inventory. We sent out letters with your water bill and posted information on our website/social media to ensure everyone was aware of this critical requirement from the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE).

To identify unknown service lines, a company was hired to send over 1,200 letters to city residents. If you received one of these letters, your prompt attention and assistance are crucial. Please help us determine the material of your service line so we can comply with MDE regulations and ensure the safety of our water supply.

Why did I get a letter?
Receiving a letter doesn't necessarily mean you have a lead service line. It simply indicates that we need more information about the material of your service line to comply with MDE regulations. That's where you can help. Please click this link to complete the short survey about your service line. Taking a few photos of your service line and uploading them with your survey response will help us accurately determine its material. Your participation is crucial for identifying potential lead service lines and ensuring the safety of our water supply.

How else can I help?
Spread the word! If you know neighbors who also received a letter, encourage them to complete the survey. The more information we get, the better we can plan and prioritize our work. For more information about the Lead and Copper Rule, visit the MDE website.
